R5 - BIM Interoperability

The main article from the BIM Handbook discussed BIM Interoperability and the difficulty of converting files from different BIM platforms. This generally stems from the way different people create drawings. People draw the same object in different ways and while it can all look the same within the drawing, when it is exported the different programs can interpret it differently and possibly display them differently then was originally intended.
The other article I read entitled BIM Interoperability discussed some of the same issues that the BIM handbook talked about. It also mentioned that with newer versions of software coming out and new features being added, it can create more problems with transfering drawings between BIM softwares. This is especially a problem for structural engineerings because of the CAD based models that are usually used to design buildings do not transfer well into other BIM modeling software.
